Fa Fa Flavors…

Lavender Honey (The start of spring is March 20th and we are celebrating with one of our signature flavors! Lavender Honey is one of the flavors we started making our very first week and everyone always asks when they can  enjoy it again. March through April is your time! This is a flavor with a cult following and for good reason. First, we gently steep Carriage House Farm Wildflower honey (North Bend, Ohio) with organic lavender. We then strain and hand press the honey soaked lavender through a sieve and join the mixture with milk, cream and sugar. To really bring out the delicate flavor of the lavender flower we then re-incorporate the blooms into the gelato base and let them soak throughout the day. Finally, we again hand press and strain the milk, honey, and lavender mixture in to our gelato freezer before production. This is one of our most laborious flavors to create–no extracts!–but we feel the extra effort really makes this flavor beautiful.)

Kinderschokolade (Every German kid’s favorite candy bar chopped, chopped, chopped and folded into our Fior de Latte gelato.)

Pomegranate Sorbetto

Lemon Rosemary Sorbetto (Organic lemon juice from Mount Etna, Italy + Rosemary)

Guinness (Guinness is good. Guinness gelato is better.)

Cap’N Crunch (Because ice cream is supposed to be fun!)

Sea Salt Caramel (Dojo made salty caramel and gelato. What more do you need in life? Really.)

Grapefruit Ginger Sorbetto (Dojo’s freshly squeezed Florida Ruby Red Grapefruits + Ginger)

Coconut (The people have spoken and we have listened.)

Dutch Chocolate

Vietnamese Coffee (Freshly roasted La Terza coffee we then brew at our store, paired with sweetened milk.)

Bourbon Vanilla

Meg had a dream. And we just made it come true.

Dojo Nutella

We understand that you have dreams. And we want to help you make those dreams come true. Meg’s dream was to find authentic gelati, freshly made, like she once experienced in Rome. We made that happen for her last Sunday and it warms our heart.

I FINALLY found Nutella gelato! After about three years of searching, I was in gelato heaven…I was taken back to the warm summer nights in the streets of Rome…

Cincinnati Magazine Names Dojo Gelato “Best of the City”!

Best Cincinnati Gelato Dojo Gelato

Dojo Gelato has been chosen as Cincinnati’s best gelato by the editors of Cincinnati Magazine!  Here is what they had to say:

At Dojo Gelato in Findlay Market, owner Michael Christner makes small batches by hand using local ingredients. Porkopolis (maple gelato with candied bacon) and Lavender Honey are our faves, but we heard a businessman in a natty pinstripe suit declare that he had driven 10 miles out of his way for one scoop of their smoky, sexed-up Dutch Chocolate.

We are honored that our fresh, authentic gelato and original flavors have been recognized.  We would like to send a huge thank you to our friends and family, Neltner’s Farm, Herbs and Spice, Findlay Market, 3 Feet, Vine Street Interactive, Fox Paw Ridge Farm, Mark Bodenstein, Hunter Thomas of 20 Brix, Kroeger & Sons, Poeme, Dawson Belobrajdic, the local food blogging community, Adam Pearson, Take the CakeSoapbox Cincinnati, Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce, La Terza Artisan Coffee, the Hyde Park Farmers’ Market, Happen Inc., the Dojo team, and, most importantly, you, our customers for helping us achieve so much.

We are humbled to be a part of the “Best of the City,” a list that includes many of Dojo’s local favorites, like Riverside Korean, Slim’s, and Molly Wellmann’s cocktails. Many thanks to Cincinnati Magazine and you, our customers, for your support.

Sincerely,

Michael Christner
